Bang Tao Beach

Bang Tao Beach - Bang Tao Beach is one of Phuket’s largest stretching over six kilometres, situated on the west coast of the island, Bang Tao lies between the airport and Patong Beach.

There are many high-end resorts dotted along the shore – the massive Laguna complex dominates the area and is host to some of the best known resorts on Phuket – Banyan Tree Phuket, Dusit Thani Lauguna, Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach, the Laguna Holiday Club and Angsana Laguna Phuket.

Between them the resorts have all the facilities needed for an enjoyable visit and most are open to non-residents. The Laguna Phuket Golf Club nearby, which hosted the 2009 Thailand Open, has stunning mountain views and has recently been renovated making it one of Asia’s finest resort courses.

The northern end of Bang Tao beach is as yet fairly under developed with only a few small bars and restaurants along the beach front. The sheer length of beach provides many spots where you can find absolute privacy and relax and swim on this beautiful part of Phuket.

Away from the beach, close by, is the village of Cherngtalay – this offers some superb and reasonably priced alternatives to dining in the resort restaurants. The village has a good selection of bars, pubs, restaurants, souvenir shops and traditional Thai massage shops. And to experience the local feel there is a lively fresh food market and the colourful Thai temple – Wat Chergtalay.

During the high season, from November to April, there are water sport activities available along Bang Tao Beach, such as paragliding, jet-skis, waterskiing and banana boats. For the equestrian enthusiasts, there is the Bang Tao Riding Club, situated near the entrance to the Laguna Complex. They organize horseback riding along the beach with well-trained guides – a perfect way to enjoy the sunset along this marvelous beach.
