Karon Beach
Situated on the west coast of Phuket, approximately 50km by road south of Phuket International Airport, Karon Beach is one of the largest and most popular beaches in Phuket. With its golden sand stretching over three kilometres there is always plenty of space to be found to relax, sunbathe and swim in peace and quiet.
The hotels and properties along Karon are set well back from the beach and separated by a road giving it a wonderful wide open feeling. At the northern end of the beach are Karon circle and the main town that is host to a wide range of restaurants, shops, hotels and lively bars. The southern end of Karon merges into Kata town and has a small stadium that stages local football and rugby matches.
The pristine crystal clear waters of Karon make it an ideal beach for snorkeling and exploring the colourful and exotic tropical marine life - there are also plenty of scuba diving shops around the Karon Beach area to book courses and trips. For a more relaxing time, there are numerous traditional Thai massage boutiques along the shorefront and market stalls and shops offering great bargains.
Sports and beach parties are also a large part of Karon life; there are jet skis to rent, paragliding and surfing are also on offer; the Swatch FIVB beach volleyball world tour hold annual contests here and New Year’s Eve is celebrated on the beach in a spectacular display of fireworks and Chinese lanterns rising up to the night sky.
The ideal time of year to visit Karon Beach is the high season between November and April – when the weather and the sea are calmer. Karon is a remarkable and beautiful beach, especially the stunning view of the early evening sun setting over the sea horizon.
