Patong Beach
Patong Beach is the heart of the tourist industry on Phuket. With its multitude of bars, nightclubs, go-go bars and restaurants, the renowned Patong attracts people from across the globe. The beach front is lined with seafood restaurants and small shops where you can buy somewhat less than genuine brand named sunglasses, watches, DVDs, handbags, shoes and more.
For the more bona fide articles there is Jungceylon, one of Phuket’s largest shopping centres and entertainment complexes. Jungceylon houses a wealth of shops and boutiques and has a state-of-the-art cinema, a bowling alley, restaurants, pubs and the major fast food outlets such as McDonalds and Burger King.
Patong Beach is a pleasant bay that can get very busy in the peak season and has all the watersports you’d expect from a Phuket Beach.
But Patong is first and foremost known for its vibrant and thriving nightlife – Bangla Road, and its surrounds, is the core of late night entertainment with dozens of bars, go-go clubs, nightclubs and live music venues – Patong is a town that rarely sleeps – it just takes a quiet nap occasionally.
A stroll down Patong’s Bangla Road neon lit stretch is an eye-opener with street entertainers, vendors and lady-boys dressed up Las-Vegas style along the street. One of the more popular venues in Patong is the Tiger Complex half way down Bangla that hosts dozens of small bars each with an interesting array of poll dancing girls.
At the far end of Bangla Road, for rock music lovers, is Rock City that has live tribute bands and across the road is a Thai ensemble that belt out cover numbers. Amongst the many late night nightclubs there is Tai Pan and on the top floor of Junceylon shopping centre there is the Famous Rooftop Nightclub that features a glass bottomed swimming pool, both are open well into the early hours. There is never a dull moment in Patong!
