Rawai Beach
Rawai Beach is situated on the south east coast of the island 17km from Phuket Town. Its close proximity to Phuket Town made it the first beach on Phuket to be developed for tourists, long before established road routes to the west coast were constructed.
Although Rawai Beach is not suitable for swimming it offers some lovely views of the nearby islands and is an excellent place to hire long-tail boats and motor boats for island hopping excursions around the area. Fishing and snorkeling trips can be organized from here to Coral Island, Racha Island or Koh Lone.
There are many activities available in Rawai from learning to cook Thai cuisine, Muay Thai (Thai boxing) to horse riding along the beach. Other attractions include the Phuket Seashell Museum, near the Evason Resort, that has an impressive display of over 2000 exhibits from around the world and fossils dating back 380 million years. One of the most popular attractions in Rawai is Phromthep Cape which from its vantage point offers spectacular views of the sunset.
Rawai Beach is well known for its many seafood restaurants along the front offering delicious freshly caught fare enjoyed by both locals and visitors. One of the most popular restaurants in Rawai is Nikita’s, situated at the top end of the beach and directly on the shore front it enjoys a regular clientele and is the perfect place to enjoy an early evening cocktail to the sounds of the gentle waves lapping the shore.
Rawai has a thriving nightlife in and around the area, with numerous bars and pubs with pool tables and large screen TVs showing live sporting events. A short distance from Rawai Pier is the Laguna complex with a labyrinth of bars and a lively nightclub that stays open to the early hours.
