Phuket City Rental Homes - in 2004 Phuket’s main town obtained city status – Phuket City, as it is now known, is a vibrant, bustling town with a population of roughly 90,000. This comparatively small city is an interesting mix of old Sino-Portuguese architecture - housing art galleries and trendy coffee shops, and modern structures built for offices, hotels and shopping centres.

Phuket City has a vibrant and diverse nightlife scene and numerous first class restaurants. On the edge of town is the Siam Niramit Phuket show, an extraordinary and extravagant performance depicting the history, arts and culture of Thailand. On the flip side of the coin is the Aphrodite Cabaret Show, a glamourous, glittering lady-boy show with state-of-the-art sound and light systems, professionally choreographed dancers, superb stage sets and enough feathered headdresses to fill a dozen king sized mattresses.

Chief amongst the many bars in Phuket City offering live music are the Timber Hut and Rockin’ Angels Blues Café – both venues have a great ambiance and some talented musicians performing well-known western music and popular Thai tunes.

There is a vast amount of shopping opportunities in Phuket City and its surrounding area; the centrally placed Robinson Department store, and on the outskirts of the town Central Festival, Big C and Tesco/Lotus. The Phuket Weekend Market, just a kilometre south of Central Festival, offers a huge array of very inexpensive merchandise and local Thai food and is an entertaining place to visit even if you don’t want to shop.

Phuket City is host to the region’s most unusual and spectacular events – the annual Vegetarian Festival. This bizarre festival dating back to 1825 attracts thousands of participants in processions through the town with body piercings to the extreme including skewers, large poles and basically anything sharp enough to stick through your cheek! This wonderfully colourful event culminates in an ear-shattering display of fireworks enough to wake the dead – which is actually the point – to scare off malevolent spirits.
